Junior DevOps & Infrastructure Engineer

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Junior DevOps & Infrastructure Engineer to join our team of 2 infrastructure specialists working under the guidance of our Senior DevOps & Infrastructure Lead. You will gain hands-on experience building and maintaining Azure cloud infrastructure for an innovative educational platform while learning enterprise-grade DevOps practices and educational technology compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Support & Development

• Assist in deploying and maintaining Azure Functions, Cosmos DB, and related serverless services

• Monitor system health and performance using Azure Application Insights and custom dashboards

• Support CI/CD pipeline maintenance and troubleshooting using Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions

• Help implement automated testing and deployment processes

• Participate in infrastructure documentation and runbook creation

Cloud Operations & Monitoring

• Monitor application performance and system health metrics

• Assist with backup verification and disaster recovery testing

• Support security monitoring and compliance reporting activities

• Help maintain development, test, and staging environments

• Participate in on-call rotation for production support (with senior guidance)

Automation & Scripting

• Write and maintain infrastructure automation scripts using PowerShell and Azure CLI

• Help implement Infrastructure as Code practices using Terraform

• Assist in creating monitoring and alerting configurations

• Support automated deployment testing and validation processes

• Learn and implement security best practices for cloud infrastructure

Learning & Growth

• Work closely with Senior DevOps Lead to learn advanced Azure services and architecture patterns

• Participate in team technical discussions and infrastructure planning sessions

• Learn foreign educational technology data compliance requirements (FERPA, GDPR) and implementation

• Develop skills in performance optimization and cost management

• Gain experience with enterprise-scale infrastructure challenges

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

• 1-3 years of experience with cloud platforms, preferably Azure

• Basic knowledge of Azure services (Azure Functions, App Services, Storage)

• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins)

• Basic scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, and Bash

• Knowledge of monitoring and logging concepts

Infrastructure Knowledge

• Understanding of cloud computing fundamentals and serverless architectures

• Basic networking knowledge (DNS, load balancing, security groups)

• Familiarity with database concepts and backup/recovery procedures

• Some experience with automation tools and Infrastructure as Code concepts

• Understanding of security best practices and compliance frameworks

Preferred Qualifications

• Azure fundamentals certification (AZ-900) or willingness to obtain

• Experience with educational technology or compliance requirements

• Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)

• Familiarity with monitoring tools (Application Insights, Prometheus, Grafana)

• Experience with automated testing frameworks and practices

• Basic understanding of security scanning and vulnerability assessment tools

• Exposure to agile development methodologies
